Lost pets very often end up at one of Brisbane Region Council Pounds and only have a limited time to be reclaimed by their owners. Your dog or cat will most likely be taken to your local council, but can also be taken to any of the neighbouring ones.

If the identity of the owner can be established from the council registration tag or from the microchip on a dog or a cat, the owner will receive a letter notifying them that their animal is at the pound. If the Council cannot locate the tag or the chip, the pet will be passed on to the Council Pound and held for a certain amount of time (usually several days).
